Community Bridges Inc. (CBI) prides itself on our superior staff and the care they provide to every patient.
Ensuring our teams are prepared for any situation and have everything they need to give the best possible care is paramount to CBI. With that in mind, we offered continuing education to our entire staff so they could learn new skills within the integrated behavioral healthcare system. It all took place at CBI’s first annual Internal Skills Fair.
A skills fair is designed so that employees gain new knowledge, learn about new medications, refresh competency skills, and reinforce practice guidelines.
What’s unique about CBI’s Skills Fair is that it gives our staff a chance to expand their knowledge base when it comes to patient care. Many of our non-nursing employees have never had to do a blood draw, administer an IV, or perform an EKG test. They had the opportunity to learn about those types of duties and more at the Skills Fair!
There were 25 different education and hands-on stations where instructors provided training, shared techniques and answered questions. We had quite the variety of topics at this year’s Fair!

In addition to the skill stations, five pharmaceutical companies were on hand to share information about their medications. Indivior (Sublicade and Perseris), Alkermes (Vivatrol and Aristada), Sage (Post Partum Medication), Janssen (Invega and Trenza) and IQVIA (Sprarato) participated. For our employees who have wondered how these medications work, this was their chance to learn more.
The Skills Fair culminated with an award ceremony for “Outstanding Nurse of the Year”. Rose Barnett and Danielle Hansen, nurses at CBI, took home the prize. Congratulations!
Rose and Danielle may have taken home the award, but our team members walked away with something as well. They left the Skills Fair with a renewed commitment to provide the best quality care and patient experiences.
Our first annual Internal Skills Fair was such a big success that we’re already planning for next year!
