SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT
We know Better than most that Recovery is Possible
We use a holistic—or integrated—approach to addiction treatment, taking each person’s unique traits and issues into account to design a treatment plan. Using a combination of education, therapy, housing, medications, inspiration, hope, and other supportive services, our solutions are never one-size-fits-all.
People are unique, and so should their treatment plan in recovery be.
CBI’s roots are in addiction and behavioral health care, with family at the center of the recovery process. Since 1982, we have been #RedefiningRecovery by:
- Keeping up with the latest in scientific studies
- Implementing techniques that work
- Employing people who have walked in your shoes
First things First
Getting Free from Substances
Physical detoxification under supervised medical care is the first step to recovery. In both inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities, CBI helps our patients manage the intense physical symptoms that come from alcohol and/or drug withdrawal. And, depending on the addictive substance and the person, we develop a set of medical protocols to wean people off of these toxins.
Withdrawals from alcohol and opiates are the most physically intense and medically threatening, which is why detoxification in a safe, secure and medically supervised setting is imperative. Regardless of substance use—street drugs such as heroin and crack, or prescription medications—treatment requires a supportive system, beginning with detox.
Success depends on a healthy setting, professional medical and psychological help, and peers to help navigate a new life without dependence on drugs and alcohol.

Our Peer Navigators Have Walked a Mile…
Helping Hands from People in Recovery
Recovery is a slippery slope. For those who are ready, we have a dream team of dedicated, passionate “peer navigators” who have walked a mile or two in your shoes. Living lives in recovery, our peer companions are uniquely qualified and gifted in supporting people along the journey to their own recovery.
Peer navigators are not only role models, they are a crucial piece of CBI’s integrated treatment model. Read More
They help patients navigate their new lives by offering:
- Problem-solving skills
- Time management techniques
- Coping mechanisms
- Ongoing service coordination
- Relapse prevention strategies
They are advocates who help coordinate ongoing care for inpatient residential stays, outpatient placements, and community services.
Peer navigators care like no one else can. They care if an appointment is missed, if someone is a no-show at a meeting, and if communication has dropped. They are the first to recognize the signs of relapse and do everything in their power to provide patients with the tools to avoid it.
The Importance of Family and Friends
Supporting Your Loved Ones in Therapy
At CBI, we are fond of talking about our integrated approach to recovery. That’s because detoxing from physical dependence is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s identifying healthy day-to-day activities that amount to success in long-term recovery. Healthy relationships with supportive family and friends are known to have a powerful effect on an individual’s ability to work toward and maintain sobriety.
We find that the more natural supports involved in someone’s treatment, the more likely they are to maintain an addiction-free lifestyle. It is so important to attempt to repair these relationships that have been broken in addiction. Family support groups, family counseling, and education are crucial to this process, as is coming to an understanding that addiction is a disease with common cures. And you can help.
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Using Best Practices to Get Off of Substances
CBI treats physical dependence on alcohol, opioids, including prescription pain medications, fentanyl and heroin, with an outpatient system of integrated treatment.
Integrated therapy includes:
1 Behavioral therapies in individual and family group settings
2 Education from peers on life skills, relapse prevention techniques and more
3 Support services such as coordination of care with multiple providers
4 Medication Assisted Treatment, or MAT, when necessary
Residential Treatment Programs
We treat individual needs while allowing patients to recover in a safe space
CBI operates numerous residential addiction treatment programs in Arizona, where patients generally require support anywhere from 14 to 60 days. In some cases, a brief intervention is all that is necessary, for 3 to 5 days. Time and treatment are based on an ongoing assessment of each person’s needs, indications, and recovery.
Beyond Physical Addiction
Restoring Hope
At CBI, we go beyond detox and truly specialize in helping patients repair the feelings associated with life after addiction. Using integrated behavioral, physical and/or medication therapies, our nationally recognized, evidence-based treatment models maintain the dignity of each person in our care.
Most important to success in recovery is behavioral therapy in individual and family counseling sessions. This powerful combination helps patients really engage in their own treatment plan. It helps them take control of their attitudes and identify the feelings that led them to substance misuse. This dose of healthy life skills becomes the foundation on the road to success.
We know recovery is possible because we have lived it.
We know that recovery is possible!
As with every CBI program, our residential facilities are integrated to treat the whole patient: medical, psychiatric and substance abuse. Our program coordinators ensure each patient is appropriately assessed, engages in therapeutic sessions, and is in a safe environment for developing healthy coping skills.
CBI believes in maintaining the dignity of each person in treatment. Our residential programs use evidence-based, culturally sensitive practices in addressing substance misuse and mental health issues, to maximize the success potential of each participant in achieving long-term recovery.
There Is Life after Addiction!
The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) estimates that almost 20 million people are living life in long-term recovery! And not just any lives: Lives with meaning, surrounded by friends and family, and professional purpose. Read recovery stories here.

Adolescents in Recovery
Leading the Way for Teen Addiction Treatment
CBI is the leader in addiction treatment for adolescents in Arizona. We have built a program geared to teens that engages the entire family. We do this to build a natural system of support, to achieve recovery goals, to enhance health and wellness, and to improve the individual’s and family’s quality of life.
Our staff of practitioners, case managers, and counselors use age-specific interventions to guide and support teens on their journey through addiction recovery. Read More
Young Adults in Recovery
Addiction Treatment for College Students
Students living on their own for the first time on a college campus experience a rush of feelings and new experiences all at once. Whether the student is an athlete, in a sorority or fraternity, has mental health concerns, lives in the dorms or an apartment, one thing is certain: Each student faces a lot of stress and peer pressure.
CBI is there every step of the way, to ensure young adults stay on track. Similar to its adolescent program, CBI understands that age-appropriate resources ensure a better outcome in recovery. The goal is to quickly intervene with an integrated treatment plan so that students are able to get back to what is important: their future
