Howard M. strongly dislikes the words “jaundice” and “dialysis.”
They remind him of what he went through as a result of years of alcoholic abuse.
At 35, the professional accountant has had liver and kidney transplants, deals with a bloated stomach of fluid and undergoes many other miseries from time to time. Maves feels lucky to be alive.
“It’s still day by day,” he said. “But I have many things in place to help me and to correct me. It’s a nasty disease and I was at the extreme of it.”
